Our pre-school room can take up to 24 children, aged between three and five, with a one to eight ratio. Here the staff and children follow the Curriculum for Excellence.
This room is supported by the owner of Little Scallywags Nursery, who is a qualified Early Years teacher. Victoria supports staff and children in planning activities to ensure children are reaching their Developmental Milestones and are ready for the start of their school journey.
The children are very much involved in the ongoing planning of both the learning and the ever-changing learning environment. We use floor books and the children’s own individual scrap books to evaluate all children’s learning and to plan for their next steps.
The preschool children take part in weekly outdoor learning sessions. These sessions are led by Gema-Gayle our manager, and Mel. With over 20 years guiding experience Gema has a wealth of knowledge in outdoor learning. Mel is also forest schools trained. These sessions provide our children with an opportunity to explore nature, whilst developing many other skills such as problem solving and a healthy understanding of risk.
We have created strong links in our local community with visits to the local care home, the local library, community garden and local woodland trails.
